Garlock Introduces Flue Duct Expansion Joints
We’ve added custom-engineered 8400-HT style expansion joints to our popular line of flue duct products. The joints are available in a variety of configurations and material combinations, and each component is designed and fabricated to meet specific system requirements. They’re ideal for low-pressure, lightweight piping and ductwork applications, and can withstand temperature fluctuations from -75 to +2,200 degrees F.
Reflecting our environmental focus on emissions control, the 8400-HT can be constructed with a proprietary blend of fluoro-polymers and reinforcing materials that provide high resistance to corrosive gases such as SO2 and H2SO4, making the expansion joint suitable for most operating conditions in flue gas desulphurization systems.

Garlock Celebrates Earth Day
April 22 marked the 28th anniversary of Earth Day, and Garlock employees joined the more than 500 million people across the globe in observing this momentous occasion. The extensive environmental and conservation measures in our current five-year, $30 million plant modernization project underscore our commitment to providing safe, cost-effective, and compliant solutions.
Our new facilities feature a host of conservation features, including the use of water from a nearby lake for comfort and process cooling, closed-loop process equipment that saves up to 20,000 gallons of water per day, more energy-efficient buildings, increased green space to reduce runoff, and many others. In addition, we are now using a more environmentally friendly material in our gaskets, a move that not only eliminated 120 tons of air emissions, but actually improved the production process. |

Garlock Receives Environmental Award
Garlock was recently honored for our environmental leadership by the Rochester Business Journal. The publication recognized the ways that our modernization project stresses resource conservation and our conversion to a more environmentally friendly material for gasket production at our Palmyra, New York facility.
Garlock invested more than $3 million to replace a volatile organic compound (VOC), with a more environmentally friendly material in our production of gasket material, eliminating annual air emissions of 120 tons in the process. Use of the new material also resulted in improved process yields, products that seal 20 percent better, and a healthier work environment.

Great Tips for Dealing with Low Load Conditions
In the April Issue of World Pumps magazine, Garlock’s Jim Drago looks at how different gasket materials can cope in low load conditions. According to the article, many factors affect the performance of the ubiquitous gaskets that provide critical seals between pipe segments and ensure the satisfactory operation of a broad range of industrial equipment—but no factor is more important than compressive load.
